MAKING YOUR TRANSIT SYSTEM MORE UNIQUE
Buses painted to stress different themes can have a positive impact on public opinion and marketing of transit. The experiences of several transit operating agencies are described. Local celebrations, system marketing or company tradition may all be reasons for such theme buses. The author notes that painting a bus may cost up to $2000 and budgeting for such a project is essential, along with the use of a competent design. He also warns against using an old bus, both because of the difficulty of painting fluted sides and because the bus interior should be representative of the best of the current fleet.
