FOLLOW-UP METHODOLOGY OF PAVEMENTS WITH THICK BITUMINOUS BASES COURSES
METHODOLOGIE DE SUIVI DES CHAUSSEES A COUCHES DE BASE BITUMINEUSES EPAISSES
After a brief account of the behavior of 1,400 kilometers of bituminous pavements, this article describes a method based on the one hand on general principles of organization common to all the structures concerned, and on the other hand on particular tests in whose interpretation the originality of the method lies. After a short description of non-destructive inspection procedures, a large part of this article deals with the analysis of the mechanical functioning of the pavement from deflexion, radius of curvature x deflexion, and ovalization test. Tests on materials sampled in situ, in particular the direct tensile test under imposed strain, are used for the rational measurement assessment. The method is based on the calculation of the probability of failure of the pavement on the probabilistic assumption of the appearance of structural deteriorations in function of the dispersions of the thickness and nature of the material and its law of fatigue.
