MEASUREMENT OF THE RIDING QUALITY OF PAVEMENTS: II. THE APL 25 VERSION OF THE LONGITUDINAL PROFILE ANALYZER

II - LA VERSION APL 25 DE L'ANALYSEUR DE PROFIL EN LONG

The APL 25, coming after the APL 72, is the second operational version of the APL vehicle of the profile measuring type developed by the LCPC for the measurement of the riding quality of pavements. Initially intended to replace the viagraph as an item of control equipment for pavements under construction, this new appliance was designed with maximum simplicity in view, in respect of its use and in respect of the exploitation of the results. Early in 1983 the APL 25 was fitted with a system of recording the pavement profile on cassette which can be fed into a micro-computer. Without detracting from the initial simplicity, this equipment has widened the field of application of the APL 25 to include the high-yield non-destructive testing of highway systems, particularly with a view to using riding quality as an overall indicator of the quality of flexible pavements.
