THE IMPACT OF HIGHWAYS UPON METROPOLITAN DISPERSION: ST. LOUIS

The author examines the relationship between highway improvement and changes in urban form in the St. Louis Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA). The paper briefly reviews the literature concerning industrial location, and then summarizes highway improvements and land use changes that occurred in the St. Louis region during the 1960s. The paper presents regression models relating land use changes to travel time change and reports the results.
