MATHEMATICAL MODELS FOR DELAYS AT PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS
Based on certain assumptions concerning pedestrian behaviour (arrival at crossings, crossing time, moment of crossing) this study establishes alternating periods of time called effective green periods (e.g.p.) and effective red periods (e.r.p.). An egp is a period of time during which it is possible for vehicles to pass through the crossing, and an erp is a period during which they are not allowed to pass. The distribution and moments of these periods are analysed and modelled in terms of pedestrian and vehicle queues. (TRRL)
