THE USE OF SAFETY BELTS IN 1983 AND DEVELOPMENT OF USE IN 1966 - 1983

The mobile police collected the material on highways and in urban districts from which 14900 drivers' and 5000 passengers' use of safety belts was observed. Outside the urban districts 93% of the drivers and 90% of passengers used safety belts, or altogether 92%. The corresponding figures were 83%, 77% and 82% in urban districts. Compared with 1982 the use of safety belts increased outside urban districts with 6 per cent and in urban districts with 15 per cent. (TRRL)
