I-395/I-66 TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Twenty years of planning by the Virginia Department of Highways went into a study of Route I-395 (the Shirley Highway) and I-66 in order to reduce congestion and increase safety. Following engineering studies, construction of improved features of the system began in 1982. Full-scale systems operation in anticipated to begin in 1985.
