AUTOWORLD ACCORDING TO MIT
Results are presented of the recently completed four-year, MIT International Automobile Program the most comprehensive assessment of the world auto industry ever made. The findings about the future world auto industry revealed four major factors. These are the introduction of microprocessor-controlled flexible manufacturing, the availability of new product technologies, the arrival of new social organizations in the production process and the fact that the world's auto buyers are asking for varying sizes and types of vehicles. The increasing use of flexible automation able to assemble a wide range of products on the same line will mean that a plant may be highly efficient if the cumulative volume spread over several models is 240,000.
