THE CENTRAL LONDON CORDON SURVEY 1982
The survey, carried out during June to October 1982, based on a sample of 17 entry points to the inner ring road (irr), provides an indication of the pattern of traffic approaching central London during the morning peak and off-peak. The findings are compared with those of the 1977 through traffic survey. Results from a number of surveys are combined to describe trends in the pattern of central London traffic since the 1970's. Since the mid-1970's the growth in the volume of cars entering the central area in the peak has slowed markedly. Car trips to work comprise the major element of the flow during the peak. Parking characteristics, movement patterns, irr usage, trip-ends and car subsidy levels are considered. The use of the survey data, the anticipated effect of the M25 orbital motorway and future surveys of through traffic are discussed. (TRRL)
