COOPERATION IS KEY TO MULTI-CITY GROUND TRANSPORTATION CENTER
The Ground Transportation Center (GTC) recently completed in Fargo, ND, was built cooperatively with adjacent Moorhead, MN, using a combination of UMTA, Community Development Block Grant, and local funds. The off-street facility serves as the center-city terminal and transfer point for the local bus routes as well as the station for intercity buses. There are actually separate buildings joined by a canopy and atop a 200-car parking garage. Despite cutbacks in local bus service levels, ridership on the system has actually increased since GTC opened. The facility is also the operations center for Handi-Wheels, a service for handicapped.
