NEW TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM IN JAPAN
The aim of the new transport system is to overcome the shortcomings of conventional transport modes and meet future requirements. Although the objectives are varied and it is difficult to describe the new systems in a few words, it is possible to isolate three basic factors as objectives for the new system: The need to satisfy a broader range of more exacting requirements; the need to avoid negative social effects such as traffic accidents, environmental hazards and pollution; and the need to operate the system healthily as a public communications network.
