TRAFFIC IN TORONTO - 3, DISTRIBUTION OF TRANSIT TRAFFIC AND FACILITIES

In this paper a continuous model for representing transit service in metropolitan Toronto is developed. For a selected zone system, the length of transit routes and the total seat-km per hour were calculated for all transit services within metropolitan Toronto. The density of these transit quantities was also calculated and then graphed against the distance from the city centre. Various mathematical relationships were derived to help describe how these characteristics of transit service vary with distance from the centre of the city. Finally, the continuous models developed were used in the macroscopic analysis of the metropolitan Toronto transit system. See also IRRD nos. 279625, 279753 and 280971. (TRRL)
