FABRIC SHADE STRUCTURES FOR THE QUEEN STREET MALL
The paper discusses the structural design, fabrication and construction of two identical tension fabric shade structures for the Queen Street Mall, Brisbane. Each structure measures 18 m x 18 m in plan and is in the form of a four sided inverted conical surface. Each is supported by a 15 m high central upright, cantilevering tubular steel column. Horizontal guyed outrigger struts support each of the four corners above the fabric surface. The general procedures for specifying the surface geometry and calculating the cutting patterns by desktop computer are described. (Author/TRRL)
