USE OF RUBBER PADS FOR CAPPING CONCRETE CYLINDERS

Concrete cylinder specimens need to be capped on at least one end prior to compression testing, and this is done with a molten sulphur compound or one of the alternative mortar capping methods described in the Australian Standards as 1012-1973. These approved methods are slow and capping must be done at least 1 to 2 hours in advance of testing. This paper desribes the method of using a rubber pad as a reusable cap and presents results of comparative testing with conventional caps on a wide range of concretes. The number of the covering abstract for the conference is TRIS no 394142. (Author/TRRL)
