POST-TENSIONED CONCRETE SLAB ON GRADE

Concrete slabs on grade serve many purposes in the community. They are used for roads, airport runways and taxiways, floor slabs for industrial buildings, open air heavy storage pavements, floors for water reservoirs and face slabs for dams. Benefits available by post-tensioning these slabs are discussed. Reference is made to design procedure for post-tensioned slabs to withstand concentrated loads whether of a repetitive or non- repetitive nature. The procedure arrives at a comprehensive design chart to permit rapid evaluation of alternatives of thickness and level of prestress. Aspects of construction are discussed and a case study is reported. The number of the covering abstract for the conference is TRIS no 394142. (Author/TRRL)
