AERODYNAMIC INFLUENCES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE GRAND PRIX RACING CAR

The roadholding capabilities of current racing car designs, due to their chassis aerodynamic characteristics, are investigated. As aerodynamic research generates more data than can be track tested it has become necessary to develop an analytical model able to evaluate the effects of downforce, aerodynamic drag and centre of pressure on performance. Details are given of chassis, braking force, aerodynamic, and tyre load models developed in the analysis. (TRRL)
