AREA-WIDE URBAN ROAD SAFETY SCHEMES - METHODS OF ASSESSING THEIR EFFECTIVENESS
In urban areas of Great Britain many accidents do not cluster repeatedly at locations which may be identified as hazardous, and as such are not amenable to treatment by established low-cost, site-specific engineering techniques. This paper describes the types of accident which may be found diffusely scattered on residential access streets and on main traffic routes outside town centres, and the development of a package of low-cost engineering measures applicable to them on an area-wide basis.
