VIBRATIONS PRODUCED IN BUILDINGS BY PASSAGE OF SUBWAY TRAINS; PARAMETER ESTIMATION FOR PRELIMINARY DESIGN
Occupants of buildings located near the tunnels of some major subway systems currently in operation are subjected to perceptible vibrations and audible noise, each time a train passes. To avoid such adverse effects in new construction, this paper presents a simple useful tool for estimating the vibration levels in buildings near subways as a function of the salient system parameters, and for assessing the potential effects of these levels.
