NATIONAL SAFETY BELT USAGE CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS

The addresses and workshop reports of the 1973 National Safety Belt Usage Conference demonstrate that the concept of safety belt use laws is effective in significantly reducing highway deaths and injuries. To help community leaders and concerned state legislators develop a strategy for achieving belt use laws in their states, the experience of Australia is emphasized. Federal incentives for safety belt laws are discussed, and suggestions made regarding ways in which safety legislation may be presented in a favorable light. This should be a coordinated and concerted effort at the local, state, and national level.
