Penetration of contaminated film on rails by ceramic particles and improvement of adhesion coefficient
Slip and sliding caused by fallen leaves in the autumn is problematic in terms of safety and on-time operation. A braking test using a vehicle installed with an equipment to apply ceramic particles as an adhesion material is reported herein. The adhesion coefficient increases with the amount of ceramic particles applied. The larger the area of the holes penetrated by the particles in the low-adhesion film, the higher is the adhesion coefficient. If the rail is covered by a thick film, then larger particles may break the film more effectively than regular-sized particles.
