The effects observed during a strike of public transport in The Hague in May 1981, are described. Research is carried out on movements to work, school, recreation, shops and other destinations; the consequences for bicycle and car traffic; traffic safety, air pollution and noise hindrance. With the aid of these data some remarks are made on the function of urban public transport. (TRRL)
