NATIONAL CENTER FOR STATISTICS AND ANALYSIS COLLECTED TECHNICAL STUDIES, VOLUME III. ACCIDENT DATA ANALYSIS RESULTS AND METHODOLOGY. EIGHT PAPERS

The eight papers in this volume develop methodology for analyzing traffic accident data and study specific questions concerning traffic accident injuries. The papers were written by members of the Mathematical Analysis Division, National Center for Statistics and Analysis, between October 1981 and June 1982. The topics addressed include the role of children in traffic accidents, underride accidents, whiplash injuries, the effects of decreasing car size on traffic injuries, injury consequences, and the treatment of missing data. The principal accident data sources are the Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS), the National Crash Severity Study (NCSS), and the National Accident Sampling System (NASS). A brief description of each paper is given in the Foreword.
