SPECIFICATION FOR FOAMED OR EXPANDED BLAST FURNACE SLAG LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE FOR CONCRETE. PART 2. METRIC UNITS
BS 877 SPECIFIES THE REQUIREMENTS FOR FOAMED OR EXPANDED BLAST FURNACE SLAG LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE FOR CONCRETE, USING METRIC UNITS. THE SPECIFIED SLAGS ARE DEFINED AND IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THEY SHALL BE CLEAN AND FREE FROM DELETERIOUS MATERIALS THAT WILL AFFECT THE STRENGTH OR DURABILITY OF THE CONCRETE. BULK DENSITY, SULPHATE CONTENT AND GRADING ARE DETERMINED BY THE APPROPRIATE METHODS IN BS 3681. THE BULK DENSITY, WHEN THE AGGREGATE IS IN AN OVEN-DRY CONDITION, SHALL NOT EXCEED 800 KG/M CUBED FOR THE COARSE AGGREGATE AND 1120 KG/M CUBED FOR THE FINE AGGREGATE. THE SULPHATE CONTENT SHALL NOT EXCEED 1.0% WHEN EXPRESSED AS SULPHUR TRIOXIDE. GRADING TABLES FOR AGGREGATES WITH NOMINAL SIZES 14-3MM AND 3MM DOWN ARE GIVEN. THE AGGREGATE GRADINGS IN THE 1967 IMPERIAL VERSION OF BS 877 HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED SLIGHTLY TO ACCORD WITH THE METRIC SIEVE SIZES. PROCEDURES FOR OBTAINING INDEPENDENT TESTS ON THE AGGREGATE ARE OUTLINED.
