INFORMATION TECHOLOGY APPLICATIONS IN VOLUNTARY SECTOR TRANSPORT OPERATIONS. SP1: OBJECTIVES AND PROGRAMME OF WORK
The objectives of the project described in this report are as follows: (1) to identify existing operational problems with and barriers to the application of information technology to voluntary sector transport initiatives; (2) to demonstrate the scope and feasibility, and identify the limitations, of the use of personal computers in facilitating vehicle sharing and improving vehicle utilisation; (3) to evaluate, through selected case studies, the relative merits of mini-and micro-computer in providing more effective operation; (4) to disseminate the practical relevance and feasibility of information technology in voluntary sector transport initiatives through (a) intensive training packages for community transport managers and operators, and (b) the provision of guidelines for agencies and groups funding such schemes. Emphasis is placed on objectives (2) and (3). (TRRL)
