AERODYNAMIC STABILITY OF BRIDGES

The work described in this report covers the following aspects of the aerodynamic stability of bridges: parametric study of wind tunnel tests on sectional models of box girder bridges, to investigate the likelihood and intensity of vortex excitation; field tests to measure the damping of a series of box girder bridges; instrumentation to measure the response of bridges under wind loading; theoretical studies of problems of divergent amplitude oscillations; limited wind tunnel tests on a sectional model of a plate girder bridge; development of draft design rules to cover both strength and fatique criteria.
