REPAIR OF CONCRETE PAVEMENTS
REPARATION AF BETONBELAEGNINGER
Several Danish concrete roads built from 1965-1970 and runways with concrete pavements built from 1970-1980 have shown defects in durability. The defects are cracks and spalling, not always limited to the surface. Repair works have been carried out as simple repairs as well as on an experimental basis with several different materials and intensities. The main experiences are as follows: it is not possible to repair substantially damaged concrete permanently on top of the damaged concrete. Such solutions must be regarded as temporary, since a continuous deterioration of the damaged concrete still takes place. Renewal of damaged areas will also normally only be of temporary character, since the surrounding concrete also will break. Thus it is very important to determine the quality of the concrete, the extent of the damage, the mechanism of deterioration and the development of the damage through tests prior to repair.
