THE STRUCTURAL EVALUATION OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS

In practice, the evaluation of the structural condition of a pavement is based on the measurement of the displacement of the road surface generated by the application of a test load. The methods of applying the test load are described in this paper together with the advantages and disadvantages of the test equipment with which they are associated. The factors that must be considered in selecting a particular item of equipment are discussed. Attention is drawn to the importance of selecting equipment that is linked with authoritative design methods. For the covering abstract of the symposiuim see TRIS 396069. (TRRL)
