DATA COLLECTION FOR MAINTENANCE

This paper is a materials engineer's view of what data should be collected by authorities concerned with highway maintenance. It stresses the need for firm county surfacing policies where the performance and cost benefit of different materials are accurately known. Also highlighted is the need for engineers to monitor the construction process. Data are presented on the performance capabilities of different plant currently in use for the placement of bituminous and unbound materials. The need for a proper system for quality control abnd acceptance of materials is stressed. For the covering abstract of the symposium see TRIS 396069. (TRRL)
