ONE THIRD ONLY OF DRIVERS ARE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE GIVE WAY SIGNS

UN TIERS SEULEMENT DES CONDUCTEURS SAVENT RECONNAITRE LES SIGNAUX QUI LEUR INDIQUENT UNE PERTE DE PRIORITE

A survey was carried out among 1600 drivers to establish their knowledge of traffic signs, in particular traffic signs at junctions. Nearly every type of traffic sign used at junctions was utilized in the survey. Results showed that one third only of drivers had a good theoretical knowledge of the meaning of the signs. Attention is drawn to the need for publicity among drivers and detailed explanations concerning traffic signs at junctions for new drivers. /TRRL/
