THE USE AND MANIPULATION OF ALUMINUM IN ASTON MARTIN AND LAGONDA CARS
Castings, extrusions, and rolled sheet aluminum are used in Aston Martin and Lagonda cars for their lightness, ease of manipulation, and simplification of body tooling. Form, specification, and weight of all light alloy components are tabulated. Details of casting and finishing of the cylinder block are given; design and production of gearboxes, wheels, extrusions, and bodywork are also discussed. The Lagonda body's aluminum panels are formed by superforming rather than by the rubber-die process. Aluminum so formed behaves more like steel than the conventional sheet aluminum.
