BIOMECHANICS OF IMPACTS IN ROAD ACCIDENTS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SEMINAR HELD IN BRUSSELS ON MARCH 21-23, 1983
The objective of this program was to establish a scientific basis for a new generation of Community requirements within the framework of the EEC type-approval procedure for motor vehicles, in view of a further improvement of the safety of car occupants and other road users. The proceedings take up the reports referring to the results of the different research projects as well as the contributions made during their discussion at the four technical sessions. These sessions reflected the main themes of the seminar, i.e.: (1) pedestrians in car front impacts; (2) lateral impacts and injury prediction models; (3) frontal impacts; (4) development and testing of side-impact dummies. The fifth and final session was devoted to the assessment of the scientific value and the complementarity of the work carried out during the program to those performed by other organizations and countries in the world and to examine the applicability of these results to future regulations.
