TRAFFIC LAW ENFORCEMENT AND ROAD USER BEHAVIOUR

POLITIETOEZICHT EN HET GEDRAG VAN VERKEERSDEELNEMERS

The control of the risk of traffic accidents is one of the main functions of traffic regulations. An important aspect is the influence of traffic regulations and their enforcement on road user behavior. In this review of the literature the decision behavior of the road user is considered and also the existence or lack of suitable traffic regulations and their enforcement. Police surveillance must be rearranged in relation to time and place and these possibilities are discussed in relationship with costs and financing. The way in which police enforcement in The Netherlands is carried out at present seems not to be the best way.
