THE DISTRICT BUS IS DOING WELL
BUURTBUS GOED OP GANG
The results are reported of an evaluation of five minibus networks in Holland. These buses operate in areas with no public transport, and it is a condition of their operation that existing public transport bordering the mini networks must not be harmed by competition. There is maximum participation of the population in the districts where these buses operate. The district bus committees are composed of representatives of the villages in the areas served by the buses, which in turn are manned by volunteers who have passed a medical test. Pensioners, housewives, part-timers and unemployed may act as drivers. Costs are low, and results to date show that the service is popular. (TRRL)
