ASPHALT FOR AIRCRAFT PAVEMENTS
The Department of Housing and Construction (DHC) has a continuing need for asphalt for aircraft pavements for both new works and maintenance purposes. Aircraft, airline and airport operators all demand that pavements constructed for use by aircraft meet particularly high standards both functionally and in terms of their reliability and durability. Asphalt is commonly required to be placed in restricted work periods, at night, during unfavourable weather conditions and at short notice. DHC is looking for a mature, responsible and cost effective industry that is able to respond effectively to specialised DHC requirements in terms of time and quality through enhanced self-regulation in place of intensive client supervision. Industry's response to DHC needs is perceived to have been commercially generally good but technically in need of some improvement particularly in the areas of aggregate quality control, mix design, production plant operation, joint construction and mix compaction.
