ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF BRIDGES FOR EARTHQUAKE EFFECTS

After reviewing damages to bridges during past earthquakes, the author outlines methods of dynamic structural analysis. Code requirements in effect in several countries are reviewed with a view to emphasizing the way in which theoretical considerations are reflected in regulations documents. Procedures for estimating earthquake ground motions are discussed . The conclusion includes details of the earthhquake analysis of a long multispan railway bridge planned to cross a large dam reservoir. For the covering abstract see TRIS 393172. (TRRL)
