THEORY AND DESIGN OF INSTRUMENTATION FOR BRIDGE INVESTIGATION
In the US the rate of deterioration of concrete structures has increased considerably over the past 10-15 years. Approximately 100 000 bridges per year need maintenance. The 1969 total annual cost for restoration and protection of bridges was estimated at $2.6 billion. This article addresses the theory of the design of hybrid instrumentation, which uses both radiation and electromagnetic interrogation for measurement of the integrity of bridge footings. (TRRL)
