AUXILIARY HIGHWAY PATROL IN AN URBAN ENVIRONMENT

This article narrates the success of Auxiliary Highway Patrol Unit 2, formed in May 1979 as a special command by the New York Police Department's Auxiliary Forces section in cooperation with the department's Brooklyn-based Highway Patrol Unit 2. The support that Auxiliary Highway 2 provides its sworn counterpart illustrates how, with proper planning and supervision, any large department with a well-established auxiliary arm can enhance the functions of its highway commands.
