SHINJUKU FAMILY TOWN PROJECT. PROBLEMS AND FUTURE TRAFFIC MEASURES
"Shinjuku Family Town" which was enforced ten years ago was an epoch-making traffic measure in terms of area restriction. Having established noticeable results, this practice spread all over Japan and greatly contributed to constructing safe and clean communities. However, the traffic environment caused problems mainly on roads around the restricted area. Therefore, we consider that it is time to take a new look at this measure. Based on these problems, it is very important to promote comprehensive traffic measures which correspond to the actual condition of the area.
