THE WAXING OF DIESEL FUELS
This paper reviews the problem of fuel waxing in diesel-engined vehicles, paying particular attention to the present standards of winter grade fuel, the major factors contributing to fuel waxing, and the popular measures taken to alleviate potential problems. It is suggested that current standards for winter grade fuel are inappropriate to British winters, and experience from other European countries indicates that inadequacies in fuel system design, and in fuel additives designed to prevent fuel waxing, could be major factors contributing to operational problems during winter. On the basis of this review, and an analysis of the factors contributing to the fuel waxing problem, a series of recommendations is made which may ensure that all reasonable precautions are taken to alleviate potential problems.
