The transportation costs of petroleum products from refineries to markets have a more significant effect on the least cost location of deep-water ports than the economies created at the ocean leg of through movement by supertankers. In response to growing interest in energy supply problems, the Department of Transportation developed a model to study the impact of inland transportation costs of petroleum products on the least cost location of deep-water ports. Volume IV contains cost data in tabular form.
