COMPUTERIZED CUSTOMER INFORMATION SYSTEM--PART OF SCRTD'S TRANSMIS PROJECT
As part of Southern California Rapid Transit District's management information (TRANSMIS) project, the Computerized Customer Information System (CCIS) is still being developed, although initial phases have already passed major tests. The goals were to computerize existing systems and adopt new texhnology and programs. The CCIS data base "Map" contains indices for addresses, intersections and landmarks including phonetic coding for regions with a mixture of English, Spanish and Indian place and state names. A pathfinding algorithm supports information on routes, stops, schedules and fares. SCRTD estimates provifing the same level of information without CCIS would cost $1 million more annually. A coming phase is expected to involve the NAVSTAR satellite system which will instantly locate any vehicle in the system within 200 ft.
