THE EFFECT OF SAMPLING DISTURBANCE ON UNDRAINED STRENGTH OF COHESIVE SOILS

This paper gives the results of a series of controlled tests carried out to examine the influence of sampling disturbance on cohesive soils using artificially prepared samples and relating results to the plasticity characteristics of the samples. Both consolidometer testing for samples preparation and triaxial testing were carried out and pore pressures measured to determine effective stresses and stress paths during testing. Details of the test procedure used are given. (TRRL)
