An Assessment of Intermodality in Pula and Corfu

Pula in Croatia and Corfu in Greece have a key role in the transportation system in the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region. This study presents the investigation results about the needs and issues regarding interurban passenger transport and intermodal connectivity between ports and airports on these two cities. In addition, this work investigates possible solutions according to the profile and interconnection needs of each participating area along with the pilot actions designed and implemented to cope with lack of intermodality between ports and airports. The aim is 1) to improve the existing status with bottlenecks and other interconnection difficulties between different transportation nodes, 2) to provide viable and innovative solutions, using state-of-the-art technology, and 3) to propose actions that can improve the Adriatic-Ionian transportation system. Information was collected through in-depth interviews and long meetings with key stakeholders, members of relevant organizations and a focus group. Conclusions discuss the proposed improvements that also can apply in other areas and promote their adoption on a larger scale.
