THE TESTING OF FUEL EFFICIENT VEHICLE SYSTEMS BY USE OF A DISTRIBUTED MICROPROCESSOR FACILITY
This paper describes the new test facility available for the testing of fuel efficient vehicle systems by the use of a distributed microprocessor controlled data acquisition system. The test facility is capable of a wide variety of rolling road test procedures for worldwide emission and fuel economy tests. The analytical system can simultaneously use up to three sample positions on the exhaust system of a vehicle together with an inlet manifold sample point for EGR rates. Additional data may also be recorded from the vehicle itself either in analogue or digital form. The test data may be stored on computer disc at up to a second by second rate, for later analysis or presented in tabular form in real time and/or in graphical form. The system is used in the development of fuel efficient vehicle systems for BL Cars and its product companies.
