ELECTRONICS IN THE VOLKSWAGEN RESEARCH VEHICLE, AUTO 2000
For the research project VW-Auto 2000 we developed or modified a large number of electrical or electronic systems belonging to the areas of Driver information (FIZ), Body electronics (FEZ), and Engine control (MEZ). Depending on some functional criteria the coupling between systems was made differently strong; for time-uncritical couplings (e.g. FIZ-MEZ) we propose as a standard the bit serial interface. Our experiences are encouraging but not yet sufficient for a final judgment.
