RAILROAD RIGHTS OF WAY CAN SERVE URBAN MASS TRANSIT SYSTEMS

The use of existing railroad rights-of-way for public transit facilities in the urbanized areas of Texas has been studied in research sponsored by the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation and the Urban Mass Transportation Administration. Numerous data sources were used by the study team during the research. Mailout and telephone surveys were conducted to identify planning, construction and operational considerations of joint Railroad right-of-way usage.
