SPEEDS ON RURAL ROADS. EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT FACTORS ON LIGHT CAR SPEEDS ON STRAIGHT AND LEVEL ROAD SECTIONS

HASTIGHETER I LANDSVAEGSTRAFIK. OLIKA FAKTORERS INVERKAN PAA HASTIGHETEN FOER LAETTA BILAR PAA RAK OCH PLAN VAEG

The object was to study spot speeds of ordinary, single light cars on straight and level road sections. Data were collected from 353 measurements of 24 hours at 92 different sites. The mean values of the spot speeds are presented in relation to speed limits, road standards and weather dependent road conditions. Mainly for planning future studies, estimates have been made of the magnitude of irregular speed variations in time and space. In the report there are also results from speed trend analyses, studies of speed/flow relationships and relationships between mean speeds of passenger cars and of heavier vehicles and vehicle combinations (speeds usually limited to 70 km/h).
