LATEX ASPHALT TAKES BIG STEP
Michigan's Department of Transportation is using 180,000 tons of latex-modified asphalt to resurface 21.4 miles of concrete on two Interstate highways in Detroit. Latex-modified asphalt contains about two-thirds of a gal of styrene-butadiene per ton of hot mix. Latex-modified asphalt has better bond strength than ordinary asphalt and adheres well to the concrete roadway. It also has better moisture resistance and is more flexible and resistant to cracks in cold weather than asphalt.
