GROUTS OF CHARACTER, TENACITY AND SOPHISTICATED CHEMISTRY
Products designed by the Pozament Company for sewer renewal applications are reviewed. Examples are given to show how their chemical properties are adapted to suit particular applications. The exact engineering emphasis is on characteristics such as strength, bonding and cohesive ability, thixotropy, viscosity, stability and the ability to use low water/solids ratios. The wet environments of many projects have led to the use of formulations using clay as a base material for enhanced cohesion grouts and shrink-compensated materials specifically for sleeved pipeline annuli. More advanced grouts have been produced by the introduction of long-chain polymers to withstand wash-out and dilution. Intensive research has led to the development of a fibrous concrete material giving increased strength, the elimination of rust staining, fibre-balling and rapid application. The mixture, which can give a 50 per cent increase in flexural strength and a 15 per cent improvement in compressive strength, contains steel fibres, each about 25 mm long randomly dispersed in a specified concentration.
