SELECTING A TYRE FOR REDUCED ROLLING RESISTANCE, AERODYNAMIC DRAG, FUEL CONSUMPTION AND WEIGHT
The objective of this paper is to establish the optimum tyre aspect ratio for rolling resistance by: (1) calculation using an "o" ring analogy; (2) choice of tyre size; (3) measurement of rolling resistance on a test drum and calculation from heat loss during test; and (4) measurement of vehicle fuel consumption. Additionally, it considers the effects of tyre size on vehicle weight, fuel consumption and tread life. For the Covering bstract of the conference see TRIS 392374. (Author/TRRL)
